St Peter’s church

St Peter’s is a beautiful and important Grade II listed Arts and Crafts church designed by J.P. Seddon and completed in 1875. St Peter’s is one of only thirteen Hertfordshire churches featured in the book “England’s Thousand Best Churches” by Simon Jenkins (1999).

Ayot St Peter is part of Welwyn Team Ministry, a group of six churches that share the services of one team rector, a group of team vicars, a curate and lay readers. The other churches in the group are Welwyn, Codicote, Woolmer Green, Tewin and Datchworth. The Team Rector lives in Welwyn.

Services are held at St Peter’s church every Sunday at 11.15am. The pattern of services is follows:-

1st Sunday in the month – Matins, using the Book of Common Prayer

2nd Sunday in the month – Holy Communion, using the Book of Common Prayer

3rd Sunday in the month – Family Service, using a modern language version of the Bible

4th Sunday in the month – Parish Communion, using a modern language version of the Bible

5th Sunday in the month – Holy Communion, using the Book of Common Prayer

Visitors are very welcome at all our services.

The church is open for one day each September for the Heritage Open Days initiative. In 2022 this will be on Saturday 10th September when the church will be open from 10am to 6pm and decorated for the traditional harvest celebration the following day.

An email newsletter entitled “The Churchyard News” is published four times a year for people with loved ones commemorated in either churchyard or on the war memorial. If you would like to subscribe to this free newsletter please contact us, stating your connection to the parish.
